FESTIVAL DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

Cinema, a universal language, brings us together with different cultures, stories and emotions, while also making us part of a shared dream. As the Fethiye Photography and Cinema Art Association, we set out on this journey three years ago with just such a dream. This year, with the 3rd Fethiye International Film Festival, we see this dream growing.

This year, in 2025, we are delighted to share our festival with you, our valued audience, and to experience the joy of being international. We are delighted to present not only films, but also the labour, passion and stories hidden in the depths of the human spirit. This festival, intertwined with Fethiye’s unique nature and the region’s historical heritage of Lycian culture, aims to bring the magic of cinema to life from a local, national and international perspective.

The symbols of Xanthos, one of the most important cities of the Lycian Federation, ‘never accepting defeat and never surrendering’, feature on our festival poster.

Films and directors from Sweden and Greece are adding value to our festival this year.

The Alabama Fair Hope Film Festival in the United States and the Show Me Shorts Film Festival in New Zealand are supporting the global screening of short films by sharing their 2024 short film selections with us and showing our 2024 short film selections at their festivals.

This year, our festival, which features both short and feature-length films, once again offers panels, discussions, and presentations for you to enjoy.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our friends who have supported, contributed, and worked hard, to all the directors, and of course to the cinema lovers in Fethiye, the heart of the festival. Each of your presence on this journey makes our festival more meaningful.

Let us witness the worlds unfolding on the screen together, draw inspiration from new stories, and share the magic of cinema.

With love,

CANAN TOR

About Us

The Fethiye Photography and Cinema Art Association (FEFSAD) was established in 2014 and operates under the umbrella of the Turkish Photography Federation. It is a non-profit organization that aims to contribute to the advancement and dissemination of photography and cinema art in terms of culture, education, and art.

Through the talks, training sessions, exhibitions, workshops, fieldwork, and collaborations it organizes, our association supports the development of individuals of all ages interested in photography and cinema, thereby contributing to the cultural awareness of Fethiye.

Reason for the Film Festival

Cinema is a collective mass communication tool that reflects the values, beliefs, and traditions of society and stimulates people’s emotions. Cinema is born within society, reflecting its mindset and value judgments and holding up a mirror to them. Its visual and auditory aspects make it easier to bring social structures to life in a more lasting way. For this reason, the art of cinema has a great impact on society and its audience.

In Fethiye, which has the largest geography and cultural infrastructure in Muğla, we created cultural tourism alongside summer, alongside nature and sports tourism, we also wish to create cultural tourism. With our belief in the social awareness that cinema will enrich, we created the Fethiye Film Festival, which has been crowned with the interest and appreciation of the people of Fethiye. We aspire to create a cultural climate starting from our city and turn the world’s eyes to this rich region. We believe that the Land of Light deserves to regain the attention, value, and richness it deserves.

Purpose of the Film Festival

The people of Fethiye, in collaboration with relevant institutions, civil society organizations, cinema veterans, and volunteers, aim to contribute to our city through cinema culture tourism;

To establish the infrastructure for cinema, the seventh art within the triangle of science, art, and education, to contribute to city tourism;

Through guest talks, workshops, film screenings, panels, and conferences, we aim to create a different vision, establish cultural values within a national and international framework, and ensure sustainability.
